Vestorat - Jilting the Jester

The pure-hearted and good-natured Vestorat skirts the delicate line between hilarity and calamity. This whimsical creature lives to laugh—literally. Its entire existence is set about enjoying life and allowing others to enjoy it through humour.

Even to view the Vestorat, hard to do due to its minuscule size, is to cause fits of laughter. Its toothy grin, elongated tongue and puffed-out eyes make it glimmer with mischief and its small wings flutter with the sound of stifled giggles as it travels looking for fun and frivolity.

Completing the look is its elongated horn resembling a jester's cap and this creature is a jester throughout. If you have ever been the life of the party, the talk of the town, or the centre of every joke you have likely been in the presence of several Vestorat without knowing it. They feed perfect one-liners to people, create humourous connections for jokes and fill the air with intoxicating giddiness often mistaken for a case of 'the giggles'.

They revel in all that is funny and good in the world, and when the room vibrates with fits of laughter, they let out a drool of concentrated comedy of 'liquid bliss' that will further empower and embolden the joketeller to keep the laughs coming.

As joyous as this seems, and it can be very joyous in small doses, it comes with a warning label as it is a double-edged sword. While Vestorats can ignite the flames of hilarity and transform mundane observations into comedic gold, it lacks the societal nuance that guides human joke-telling.

As those affected by it push for more and more laughs there is a tendency to push the joke far past its intended limits and hammer punch lines that, when looked at unaffected by Vestorat drool, spiral into insensitive or ridicule the vulnerable.

The Vestorat cannot discern the line between jest and offence and this can cause it to be a fickle companion for any entertainer. Many have found themselves wandering into the abyss of cancellation due to their reliance on the Vestorat's magical gifts and intoxicating presence.

Once this occurs, the Vestorat leaves, searching for a new host for laughs and a new life of the party to revel in. The lesson learned by the Vestorat is to enjoy life but to be always mindful that your humour and enjoyment does not diminish others or you may find yourself a jilted jester.
