Flitta and Frutz

When the world seems too difficult, and frustration surrounds you, put yourself near a passing Flitta and let it literally eat away your worries.

With its sleek, eel-like body and elegant tail, the Flitta flits through the skies like a dancer in full flight. From the front however it looks far more comedic. It has stretched eyes, an ever-flapping tongue lolling behind it and dangling legs that often cause fits of laughter as it races along.

Flitta live to eat and their food of choice is the Frutz. The world is better for it as these tiny troublemakers create tension as the teem together. They are the manifestation of the feeling the world is moving too fast and that every move is blocked.

I first discovered the Frutz during a frantic project, one already overdue and also interlaced with a bout of dramas to boot. The constant thrum of the Frutz' wings turned into a hammering headache, then a raw ache behind my eyes, and finally an exhausting brain fog that made it hard to think at all.

The more they swarmed, the harder it became to breathe. It felt as if an invisible barrier had risen in front of me, keeping me from taking even the smallest step. Mercifully, it was then a Flitta tore past with its tongue whipping behind it. In a flashing frenzy of feet, fins and feeding it tore through the swarm. The thrumming ceased. I could, finally, think clearly again.

With the Frutz gone, I finally began my project and dealt with some of my personal issues and soon made the first steps that would see the project completed. The more I acted, the more the surviving Frutz seemed to lose interest. Soon they drifted away in search of someone else to plague and I was free to study the Flitta more closely.

Luckily, the search for a Flitta proved very frustrating and soon the flies were swarming around me. The headache returned. I doubted my skill as a monster hunter as I could not find a Flitta even surrounded by troublesome Frutz. It was here that I learned a valuable lesson about the monster and myself. I had done too good a job surrounding myself in Frutz and soon the air was almost solid with them.

The Flitta were too intimidated to act even though they were hungry as the swarm was too formidable. I then noticed one start dancing and flailing in the air. It waggled its tongue, puffed up its eyes and did somersaults in the air. A chuckle escaped my lips, which only encouraged it. As it upped its acrobatic ability my laughter increased with it and then I noticed each burst of mirth pierced through the swarm and caused them to become disorientated and scatter.

When the swarm broke up the Flitta was able to dash in and perform its cleansing work filling me with a sense of purpose as the thrumming chaos eroded.

That moment taught me that I am able to break down my frustrations into smaller bits by laughing at them, finding joy in myself and realising that even large swarms are made up of small insects easily dealt with when separated out.

The trick was to break them into smaller pieces, or smaller bites, for the passing Flitta.
